A Guide to Giving to the Veteran Legal Institute®

Will my gift to the Veteran Legal Institute® make a difference? Yes! Because it is an investment in our nations disabled and struggling heroes. The Veteran Legal Institute® is the only non-profit law firm assisting disabled and low income veterans in the entire country so you by this generous gift will be able to make a huge difference in assuring our veterans receive the best legal advocacy possible in the legal arena. Our nation’s heroes are struggling right now with epidemic suicide, homelessness, incarceration, a record veterans benefits backlog, long waits for care at Veteran Hospitals and our generous donation and support of the VLI will expand our services to ensure our nation’s veterans are getting the benefits and legal advocacy they deserve and earned.

General Fund: Contributions to this unrestricted fund cover our highest fiscal priorities. The General Fund donations are vital to maintain our day-to-day operations of assisting veterans and meet the specials needs as they arise.

Gifts in Memoriam: Gifts to commemorate a family member or friend may be designated toward any Veteran Legal Institute® program or fund. This gift in honor of the family member and fund will ensure that the disabled and low income veterans VLI serves receive benefits and legal advocacy that they desperately need and deserve at no cost.

Corporate Giving: Corporations with a desire to contribute to the public good are encouraged to sponsor events at Veterans Legal Institute® and donate funds for its charitable purposes.

Charitable Organizations as Beneficiaries: An easy, direct way to provide for your best-loved charities is change the beneficiary designation on an IRA or life insurance policy to the names of those organizations. When these assets are gifted to individuals, they are considered as taxable income; when they are gifted to a charitable organization, they are not. So a Charitable donation from an IRA or life insurance policy to the Veteran Legal Institute® is tax exempt and if you have further questions about this please contact Antoinette Balta at 714-852-3492.

Estate Planning: Consider Veterans Legal Institute® as a beneficiary to your estate. Long term planning is necessary and an attorney at Veterans Legal Institute® can give you more information about this process.
